Sarah Waters' The Paying Guests: Welcome to London, 1922

I just finished up Sarah Waters' The Paying Guests, published in 2014 and named "Fiction Book of the Year" by The Sunday Times. It's not my favorite of her works, but I was still a huge fan--the book was almost 600 pages long, but the writing is so fluid that you can fly through it. Expect her usual themes--lesbian relationships and desire, the shifting nature of class in post-war Britain, and crime (but not just any crime--I'd say her go-to is everyday people caught up in bizarre, criminal situations). It's set in southern London, which is where I've been living this summer, and it was so fun to read mentions of places I see on the daily--Tulse Hill, Brixton Prison, Clapham. Give it a read and let me know what you think!
