The Homestead Crater in Midway, Utah is the ultimate in expectations versus reality. Google it and you'll find images of crystal blue water, much like a cenote. Visit it and you'll see it's a bit murky (though I'm sure it's nicer when the sun is shining through--we went in the evening). We were reminded of Voldemort's cave lake from The Half-Blood Prince... but it's great fun, and the water is warm at an average of 96 degrees Fahrenheit (35.55 Celsius).
You must book ahead of time (website linked here), and I do recommend ensuring you do so far enough in advance as it's quite popular. Tickets are reasonably priced, at $18 on Friday through Sunday and holidays, and $15 on Monday through Thursday. Kids (ages 2-7) are three dollars cheaper, at $15 and $12. It's $8 to upgrade to the snorkeling experience. Kids under 2 are free. Certified divers can also enjoy for $25-30, with equipment available to rent for $30. (There are also diving lessons available that can be booked via email; further information is provided on the website.)
Each session lasts an hour, and you will absolutely not be allowed in until your exact start time, so no need to come too early (you will also get kicked out right at your end time). You will be required to wear a lifejacket (provided there).
As for transportation, it was easy for us as our resort was across the street. Be wary, though, that if you're taking an Uber or Lyft from Midway back to Salt Lake City or Park City, rideshare services are unreliable in Midway--the nearest car is often twenty or so minutes away. Book one in advance!
